MENTAL HEALTH CONDITION

What is Postpartum Depression?

Postpartum depression (PPD) is a challenging emotional experience that affects one in seven women. During what is supposed to be a joyous time can actually cause feelings of apathy, anxiety, and sadness. This condition is not a reflection of a mother’s abilities or love for her child; rather, it’s influenced by a combination of hormonal changes, lack of sleep, and the significant life adjustments that come with motherhood. PPD does not only occur after childbirth; fifty percent of women experience symptoms prior to delivery.

Postpartum depression can impact daily functioning and strain relationships. Seeking support and understanding is vital for mothers to regain their well-being and fully embrace the joys of motherhood.
